Acid Tar Remediation

We have extracted samples of the worst Acid Tar we could find and other various sludge compounds and conducted lab tests in Atlanta and we are proud and honored to say that Archaea Solutions Inc. have managed to completely break down the organics of these materials reducing the mass in some cases by 90% leaving only inorganic inert material. The big advantage of this process “bio dredging” is that it is carried out “in situ” thereby a total saving of all the transport and relocation process costs. We do not have to shift an environmental mess from one site to another

We are also able to deal with any heavy metals that may be present in the lagoons. This is carried out as a secondary treatment of the process water, in which we separate the metals and process water, and process sludge and soil to compliance.

We have some pictures of a typical tar lagoon and examples of the material that we processed at the laboratory in Atlanta.

  • Picture1 Shows a control of the acid tar and gives an idea of the consistency.
  • Picture 2 shows the material treated with Archaea and after a 48 hour period solubilizing is clearly visible.
  • Picture 3 shows the control sample and the biological reduction of 75% of the mass, including partial ash components.
  • Picture 4 shows virtual breakdown of all the organic compounds after only several days the material as shown in picture 3 is air dried by ambient air temperature, only ash remains.

The Archaea biological process has been sanctioned by the EPA as a solution for in-situ & ex-situ remediation of hydrocarbon pollution to ground water, soils and sludge.
